P1 Research Of Existing Work

Name of the project

The name of the project that me and my crew are working for is called FamFit which is located at Bristol and West athletics club with the client which is called Nick Harris.

Genre

This is a audio visual/music video of Maroon 5 with his song 'Don't Wanna Know' which is my first piece of existing work which I am analysing.

The purpose of this audio visual is to mainly entertain people of the Maroon 5 fanbase and for people who like listening to his music. The reason why you can tell this is because the main purpose of any music video is to entertain the people watching it with whatever idea is in the video or for people to just listen to it because they like music.

The form that this audio visual has is in a on demand platform. The reason for this is because this music video is on YouTube meaning that you can watch this music video any time you want to so it is on a on demand platform. This video has a longer length than most videos. The reason for this is because at the start of the video there was some scenes of just acting and not any music because it didn't start with music.

The content that this audio visual has is that there is bright use of colour because of the kinds of costumes that is used in this video as well as the different camera shots in this video with different angles in each scene throughout the video and some panning shots. The editing of this video consists of slowing down some scenes of the video. For example in one scene of the video the editing slowed down the scene where people was chasing Maroon 5 in a costume which means some of the movement was fast and some was slow throughout the video.

The meaning that this video has is a young/ youthful meaning. The reasons for this is because in the music video there is bright colours as well as the song being cheerful and is a new song in this generation so the meaning behind it is a youthful meaning.

The type of genre that this audio visual/song in the audio visual is pop/children music. The reason for this is because it is a pop tune and is classed as a pop genre or children's music.

The type of intended audience that this audio visual is going for is children/teens. The reason for this is because it is a pop/children's song so the intended audience would be children/teens because that is the type of genre the song is in this audio visual

The type of content that this audio visual has is that there isn't a lot of bright use of colour throughout this audio visual its mainly dark colours as well as the movement of the audio visual being normal paced and at some parts slowed down. For example when Ed Sheeran himself was punching a boxing bag the audio visual was slowed down. There is also many different camera shots throughout the video such as the general view shot of Ed punching the boxing bag and then a close up shot of Ed punching a boxing bag in the same scene. The editing of this audio visual consists of splitting many clips and using them as different scenes throughout the audio visual and slowing and speeding up the movement of clips.

This is an audio visual which is a music video of Ed Sheeran 'Shape Of You' song and is the second audio visual I will be analyzing.

The purpose of this audio visual is to mainly entertain the target audience of this type of audio visual which is a music video and to entertain people who generally love Ed Sheeran's music or people who like his music videos.

The type of form that this audio visual has is 'on demand' type of form. The reason for this is because this audio visual is on YouTube which means you can watch this audio visual any time you want to so it is classed as a 'on demand' type of form. The length of this audio visual is 4 minutes which is a standard time for a music video which is what this audio visual is and there wasn't any scenes in the start that didn't have any music but it started with the music straight away so it is shorter.

The meaning that this audio visual has is a anger/humor. The reason for this is because in the start of the audio visual Ed is training in boxing and is getting angry but towards the end of the audio visual there is a sumo fight with Ed and a sumo wrestler and Ed is in a sumo costume so there is a sense of humor as well as anger. Another reason is because at the start it was dark so there was a sense of anger but at the end it was brighter so at that stage there was a sense of humor too.

The type of genre that this audio visual has is a pop dancehall genre. You can tell this because in the audio visual the song that is being played is a pop dancehall genre with tropical house effects along with acoustic strum sounds so it fits into the pop dancehall genre category.

The type of intended audience that this audio visual has is a children/teens intended audience. The reason for this is because  the genre is a pop/dancehall genre and in today's society alot of children/teens but teens mostly follow the genre that is pop/dancehall. Another reason is because Ed Sheeran which is the author of the song which is in this audio visual has a large fanbase of teenagers so the intended audience would mostly be teens/children.

Treatments

Name of the project

Genre

Duration

The name of the project that me and my crew are working for is called FamFit which is located at Bristol and West athletics club with the client which is called Nick Harris.

The type of genre that me and my crew are going for in this project is a short film type of genre. The reason for this is because the brief that we was given Nick wants a short film with interview based clips that is sharp punchy and fun along with some shots of the event that is FamFit.

When it comes to the duration of the project the film will roughly be 2-5 minutes due it to being a short film and the actual project will be going on until the deadline which is the 24th of march which is when we aim to finish this short film for our client.

Target Audience

Outline/ideas

Character Breakdown

When it comes to the target audience for this project it comes down to the actual event that we are making the short film for. The event which is FamFit is to do with families doing activities together so the type of target audience would be ages from 5-40 years old due to families with different ages.

For this project the first idea that me and my team had in mind was that we would have 2 cameras for two different angles to do 'General Views' and to also get interviews from at the event with different families giving positive feedback about the event then later on interview the coach/host of the event which is Nick Harris. Our second idea which we came up with was to keep it original to the first idea but with a twist so a member of our group came up with using a GoPro to record footage of people running in a first person aspect which we can use in the short film. So the outline of this project would be for the beginning we introduce the short film with some 'General View' Shots of the area and what goes on in the event, in the middle of the film we will use GoPros to strap to some people of the event which will be doing some activities such as running then towards the end of the short film we end it off with some interviews with families giving positive feedback about the FamFit event as well as interviewing Nick Harris, the host of the event.

For the character breakdown on this project it will include multiple characters for this project and in the short film. Due to the event that we are making a short film for there will be multiple characters such as mothers, fathers, children and adults like Nick. The mothers, fathers and children are most likely going to be a big group of an interview when it comes to it because they are a family with all different ages. For example the children could be aged from 5 years and over and the adults most likely be 25+.

Visual Elements

When it comes to the visual elements for FamFit there will be a variety of things we will need. For example lighting. The lighting that we will be using is natural lighting although if we need artificial lighting we will use it. The camera movement that we will use is panning shots of 'general view' shots, still shots in an interview, close up shots on people doing activities possibly focused on feet and slowly zooming in and out shots. The type of editing that we will use is using effects between different clips and using interview voices over 'general view' shots to keep it interesting etc. For actors we won't have any but we will just use the families and Nick as actors for shots like interview shots and general view shots. For props we will use the sports equipment such as hurdles for the families in a hurdle race etc. And finally for costumes we will just let families choose what they want but it has to be sporty looking so it suits to the event which is FamFit.

Audio Elements

For the audio elements it includes soundtracks, effects and music. For the soundtrack there will be music used and voices used from interviews over 'general view' shots. For effects in audio we can use fade in and fade out effects in a start and a finish of a song if it suits the short film. Finally for music we will use something sharp and punchy because that is what Nick wanted in the client brief.

Rationale

For the rationale it relates to the idea. The reason why we chose the second idea over the first one to be the main idea is because the second idea includes more creativity and will make the short film a lot more interesting as if we went with the first idea it wouldn't be as interesting. The second idea will make it a good project because it includes the creative idea of using a GoPro strapped to a member of the event running and will give people watching the video a good idea of what it is like in a first person view. It will also be good because of the skills me and my team have which is good camera skills, video editing skills, audio skills and creative skills etc. The type of techniques that we plan to develop as a team into further use is creative ideas, seeming as we want the best outcome for this short film and for it to match the criteria as best as possible.

Primary And Secondary Research

For the primary and secondary research we watched many videos on YouTube as a team and came across one video which was related to sports which was a inspirational video which is what we are almost going for. The video link is below

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF0rrpMH-Jo

This video helped us to get a better idea of what we are doing, it had shots on the feet and upper body mostly and during the video the speed was changed and fitted in with the music which gave us an idea that if someone is running and the music is slow the speed is slow but when the music gets faster the speed of the runner gets faster to fit into the beat.

Requirements And Resources

For the requirements and resources there is cast and crew, equipment needed and suitable locations. For the cast and crew we have a camera man, a audio man and a video editor man. The type of equipment/resources that will be needed is multiple cameras and a GoPro, an audio kit, an iMac with adobe products and GoPro kit such as the strap. The type of suitable locations would be the arena and the area around the arena because that us where FamFit is based.

Constraints and Contingency

For the constraints and contingency it lists the type of problems that we may come across. The type of problems that we may come across is bad weather which could mean that there may be equipment damaged as well as tripping over the equipment which we would need to make a risk assessment but it is unlikely to happen.

Legal And Ethical Considerations

For the legal and ethical considerations we would need to consider not using any images that may be copyrighted because that is a legal issue so for the images we would have to get our own images using cameras as well as making sure that any of our work doesn't offend any races or religion because it could come across as an ethical issue if any of our work offended any races or religion. Another legal consideration is usage of a song that our client Nick harris wanted which was Heather Small Proud. We would have to ask sony to buy the song from them so we can use it for later on production. To avoid this issue we would either have to use a different song or jut buy it from sony because they are the label that the song was from. Another legal consideration would be that we would have to get people to sign model release forms to be on camera. To resolve this issue we would have to print out these forms and get people that we shoot on camera to sign it so it is legal to film them.

Budget

For the budget for this project we would have to think about what equipment and resources was spent to be used in this project as well as any other things we would need to spend in order to make this short film reach its fullest potential. For example one of the things that is spent is the DSLR camera so that would add up to the budget.

Proposed schedule

For the proposed schedule this is where we make a schedule on what we do on each day. So for example today on the 27th of February I spent the day making treatments and planning etc.

This is the type of budget costs that will happen for this project. These are the type of costs that we will need to make this project work for the client. For example when it comes to the editing of the audio visual production we will need a iMac and Adobe Creative Cloud products to edit the filming and photoshop if needed.

Script

For the script it will include the families in the interviews as well as coaches such as Nick himself.

The script below alone with some questions...

Promo’s ideas

1. Nike football advert

Because it uses visual transformations from the kid to a footballer. https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=Bv09DRd4lsM .

2. Nike running shoes

The have zoomed into the football shoes so people can notice what brand the shoes are and why type of shoes are using. They also use low shots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_shug- k45Oo.

3. Come out nowhere

They have used black and white graphics. Plus they have used no audio in the footage because they want people to have a old experience. They use slow motion footage when they done the basketball skill. https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=dOZxIpy6Gm4

close up of the person. Shot of the back of the subject.

Questions: scripts

1. Why did you pick fam fit instead of a different clubs that are around Bristol?

2. What do you think about fam fit?

3. What would you recommend fam fit to other people?

4. What do you want to achieve from this? 5.What age did you start to go to the course?

Location

For location we did a location Recce of the Bristol and West athletics club where we would be filming and what we would think about using and how we will get there etc.

Risk Assessment

For the risk assessment we would have to identify possible risks that could happen when we are filming in the specific area that we are filming at and how we could make the risk to a lower risk.

Production schedule

Storyboards

Idea 1

For this storyboard we had the idea of getting general view shots of people doing activities is shot 1 then in the second shot move on into interviews of the parents and kids. For the 3rd shot we had the idea to strap a go pro so someone running to get a first person view. The 4th shot we thought of getting other general view shots of the views around the track and the arena which fits in with the 5th shot which is getting some more general view shots of the facilities.

This is the production schedule on what it looks like so far... This is the processes that me and my team have been going through towards finishing our final film for out client. This shows what processes me and my team have been going through and what we have done.

Idea 2

Idea 3

For this storyboard it starts with the first shot being a drone shot of some general view shots of the track with people running around the track. The 2nd shot includes some general view shots of some of the families doing activities which then later leads into the 3rd shot which is a interview of families and children as well as the coaches at FamFit. The 4th shot is some more general view shots which will go over the interview. So the audio will still be on but the general view shots will go over it. For the fish shot it will be the host of the event talking about the event in a interview shot to end the film.

For the third idea storyboard it starts with the first shot zoomed into an adults eyes which leads to a flashback of that adult being young running on the track in the event (Parents child). The 2nd shot is a general view shot of someone running which either a parent or a child and we have the slider following the person running. The 3rd shot is also a general view shot but it will be a go pro on the parents child (still in flashback) as a first person view. The 4th shot will be a shot zooming out of the parents child (coming out of flashback) the it comes to reality in the 4th shot to the 5th shot where the transformation of the child becomes a adult running as a general view shot. This is an idea as a intoduction for the film then later we can add interviews with general view shots as well.

P3 competent production materials for an original audio-visual

This is one of the clips we recorded at the sports ground at FamFit. This clip is a general view shot of the parents and the children running on the track. This follows the storyboard because in the original storyboards we wanted a general view shot of either the parents running of the children running. In this case we got both.

This is me and my team setting up equipment to start filming interviews with the pro audio kit. This still follows the storyboard because we wanted to get interviews so we set up a pro audio kit so that we won't get any wind sounds in the audio for the final production.

When we came to recording the footage for the interviews later on we was setting up equipment for both recording and for the interviews. This is a photo of me and my team setting up a pro audio kit. We used one wire which both connected the mic and the audio kit together on the channel 1 feature. We did a safe work practise relating to the risk assessment because there was a potential risk of tripping on the wire so any time we would use the pro audio kit we would move the wire out of the way of the subject that is being interviewed and the person recording the interview so there isn't any tripping over the wires.

Offline Edit

This is the offline edit that me and my team were editing as a start draft to making the film for out clients. We presented this offline edit to our class and we had been given some feedback to improve this edit and to help us make our final film for our client to be a lot better and more interesting.

Feedback From Presentation

Rushes Log

This is the rushes log that we logged as we were making our offline edit. All the logs that were in this pdf was used in the offline edit as our first draft.

This is the feedback me and my team was given from the offline edit. The feedback that was given was positive criticism with feedback like we could get more general view shots as well as making sure that the audio visual matches with the beat of the music and that maybe in the future we could get a beat that starts slow with the shots being slow then getting faster along with the shots getting faster as well. However they did like the angles that this offline edit has so me and my team will keep that the same.
